Update on tests

  • eye test was inconclusive - will repeat in a 3 weeks
  • live test - liver seems to be doing a little better. Sodium level is too low, so they are hoping a new IV will help stabilize the sodium levels.
  • oxygen had to be bumped back up to 50%.

Trey is doing SUPER today!  He is just trucking along.  He is back to 2 lbs.  His Vapotherm is down to 3 liters and he is on 23% oxygen!  His head ultrasound was good and the PICC line is out.

Prayer Requests:
  • Tomorrow is his liver panel & a test for eyes for blindness.
  • Pray for peace for James & Naomi as they are nervous about these tests!

The Vent is OUT!

The tube in his mouth is a feeding tube, and the tube in his nose is a vapotherm.

2:52 pm - text from James - The ventilator is out and still only requiring 30% oxygen!  Doing great!  Thank you so much for your prayers!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!

A new day...

Trey is doing a lot better.  The biggest news is that he may come off the vent Sunday or Monday!  The vent settings are down to 20!!!  He only requires 25% oxygen now.  Pneumonia is gone!  Lungs are clear!  He is now a big 2 pounder.  He is having "good" diapers & is now getting 4 oz of breast milk a day.  He is still considered to be "critical care".

Update on Trey's Episode

I am sorry on the delay of this post.  I received news that Trey was having difficulty once I was at church and had no way of updating the blog, & I wanted to wait to receive an update before posting.

James said that Trey is stabilized.  earlier tonight his heart rate & O2 sat dropped significantly.  He had a build up of secretions in his lungs, and that is what caused the heart rate and oxygen to drop.  They have propped him up and are keeping very close eye on him in regards to this.

Prayer Requests:
  • That Trey will NOT have this kind of episode again, & that the secretions will not build back up.
  • That no infection will be caused by any of this.
  • That Trey will continue to go forward on the steroids, so he can come off the vent!
  • For James & Naomi - for God's grace & strength.
Praise God that Trey is stable again!  God is so very good!

Another Good Day!

Trey is having another good day!  He is about the same as yesterday as far as vent and oxygen settings.  His heart rate is still not stable.  One of his lungs is not opening when he breathes, so the doctors are positioning him in a different way to help that lung to open correctly.  Once it opens, the doctors believe that his heart rate will stabilize.

CONTINUE IN PRAYER FOR:
  • Trey's heart rate to stabilize
  • Trey's pneumonia to completely go away
  • Trey to continue to do well with his new vent/oxygen settings
  • Trey's growth & development
  • the steroid to continue to improve lung functioning & have NO side effects
  • Naomi to get well soon so that she can go be with Trey.

Tonight's Update

Trey had a really good day today!  They were able to turn the vent settings down to 40 (from 70)!!!  And his oxygen is down to 43 (from 80)!!!  His heart rate has been dropping, so that is not a good thing, but the rest of the news is very good!  It would seem as if the steroids are working, or beginning to anyway.

PRAY FOR:
  • Trey's heart rate to stabilize and not to drop.
  • The steroids to continue to do their job, with NO side effects
  • Trey's growth & development
  • Naomi - who is sick at home with the flu & unable to go to the hospital to see Trey.
All Glory be to GOD!

A Stable Day

Trey had a stable day.  They gave him his first two doses of steroids last night and this morning.  It should take a couple more days to see if the steroids will work or not. PLEASE pray because this is the last option the doctors have for Trey's lungs.  Thank you so much for all your prayers.  email via James

Friday Update #2 - see previous update

12:00 - Trey's CO2 is down to 47!  Big Praise!  They are still going to give him the steroid, as he is relying too much on the vent.  He is still very critical, but some good news does help!!!

see updated video of Trey 2 posts down

URGENT - pray for Trey's lungs!

10:47 am - email via James' sister - Just talked to James and Trey has taken a big step backwards with his lungs.  They are simply not working the way that they are suppose to.  They are going to begin giving him a steroid today.  This was a last resort due to some possible side effects with this steroid.  The doctors feel that this in now their only option.  They did not do another blood gas.

PLEASE pray for:
  • the steroid to be successful
  • NO SIDE EFFECTS with the steroid
  • the pneumonia to dissolve soon
  • strength for James & Naomi & the girls

I will try to keep everyone updated throughout the day with Trey's progress!  Please pass this along so that others can pray for Trey!

Keep on Praying...

Mommy feeding Trey

11:30 am -
update via email from James' sister - Trey's CO2 (carbon dioxide) is up to 84, but pH is sustaining.  The doctor is not overly concerned.  They feel like the pneumonia is contributing to the high count.  They will do another blood gas in the morning.  His WBC count is great... 13,000!

Continue in prayer for:
  • Pneumonia to resolve quickly and without complications
  • Trey's CO2 count to go down
  • James & Naomi - strength, wisdom, & peace to deal with Trey's day to day needs.

Update

Today's Update:
Everything seems to remain the same.  No blood gases today (they will repeat test in AM)
Continue to pray that Trey will recover from the pneumonia, and that his CO2 will be lower tomorrow!

To God be the Glory!

Update

Trey's carbon dioxide level was 75 this morning (up again from yesterday), but his pH level was good.  The doctors are going to leave his settings as they are and do another blood gas in the morning.  Trey is resting comfortably, & it seemed as though some of the fluid excess had diminished.

Continue to PRAY!

Update

Trey did not have as good a day as before.  His carbon dioxide level has risen to 72.  The doctors are concerned with his lung development.  He is not tolerating being weaned from the vent - when they turn him down a little, his numbers go up.  They feel that the excess fluid in him is contributing to this, so they are going to give him an antibiotic to get rid of all the excess fluid.  Once that is done, the doctors believe that his numbers will be better.  They have also found two forms of bacteria in the vent tubing.  One is being treated with an antibiotic already (from the pneumonia), but the other one is not covered under that same antibiotic.  So they are going to start another antibiotic to cover that one.

continue in prayer for:
  • Trey's pneumonia to dissolve quickly
  • Trey's levels to return to normal
  • the meds to help with excess fluid
  • Trey's development & growth
  • Naomi's healing from the c-section
  • family

A Good Day

12:30 pm - (email from James) -

Belly Time

Trey's first time to be on his belly!

another hurdle - Pneumonia

Trey developed pneumonia.  He is on antibiotics (through a new IV- used for medicines) - he still has his PICC line (for his other nutrients) in also.  The doctors are optimistic about Trey being able to fight it.  His WBC are up which indicate that his body is positively responding to attack the pneumonia.  The threat is if the bacteria spreads, especially if it spreads to his bloodstream.  He also received another blood transfusion.

Trey did have a good night, and his counts were all good.

Please continue in prayer for:
  • pneumonia to resolve quickly and without complication
  • Trey's counts to stay strong
  • the PICC line to stay without infection
  • Trey's continual growth & development
  • the family

PICC line is in...

Trey's PICC line is in.  They were able to get it in about 1/2 way of where they originally wanted it to be.  It is in the shoulder and the doctors are going to leave it there (opposed to pulling it out and trying again)

Pray for:
  • no infection in and around PICC line
  • that the PICC line will last as long as they need it to where is currently is located (about 2-3 weeks)

Pray for PICC line placement

*notice the football helmet!*

11:00 am -
update via email

Trey had a good night.  Carbon Dioxide levels are back down to 41! (yesterday they were up a tad)  and his pH level is at 7.4.  They did an ultrasound of Trey's brain and there is NO bleeding on the brain!!!  Praise the LORD!  They are also going to begin trying to wean Trey off of the vent, in smalls steps & depending on how Trey tolerates it.  Please pray for the PICC line.  Pray that the placement is correct and that Trey does not develop any infections due to the PICC line placement.

James sent new pictures last night of Trey.  See the previous post!

New pictures of Trey!

See today's update in the previous post!

2 lbs 2 oz

2:45 pm - email via James' sister -
James said Trey's carbon dioxide level is up just a tad (54) -yesterday it was down to 40. His oxygen level had gone down, but that is back up within normal range for him.  They are going to put in a PICC line today I believe.  His WBC dropped just a bit to 4700, but that is too be expected with a preemie.  His platelets did drop more because of the meds that were given to him for his heart.  I don't think they are too worried about that, just watching it.  They did the ultrasound yesterday and the doctors feel like the murmur (heart) is barely open!  They have given him a couple doses of meds for this, and it seems to be working!!!  They weighed him today and he weighed in at a hefty 2 lbs. 2 oz!!!  That is awesome!  He is still in Critical Watch, so don't stop praying!  Praise the Lord for some good news!

continue in prayer for:
  • Trey's carbon dioxide levels to stay down
  • Trey's oxygen level to stay within normal limits
  • The PICC line placement to go smoothly & without complication
  • Trey's heart murmur to respond to the medicine
  • Trey's weight to continue to increase, & for his development
  • the family
Thank you for all your prayers & encouraging comments.  The Lord truly worked a miracle in Trey's life yesterday!

Nothing is impossible with God!

"For with God nothing shall be impossible"  Luke 1:37

3:45 pm - Praise the LORD! just got off the phone with James- Trey's blood gases went from 80 (normal is 35-45) down to 40 in one hour!!!!   The power of prayer & God's grace & healing are amazing!  The Sawyers Family can NOT begin to express their thanks for all of you that have been on your knees for Trey.  Continue to pray as Trey is still in Critical Watch.

Trey's one week of life has proven over & over again what a Mighty God we serve!  To God be the Glory!

Continue in prayer for:
  • Trey's blood gases to stay in normal range.
  • Trey's growth & development
  • the family

Knowing God is in control...

3:17 pm - I have not heard anything as of yet...PLEASE continue to pray for Trey & for James & Naomi.

Pray for Trey  - he is VERY CRITICAL.

I am constantly by my phone/computer and I will update as soon as I hear anything!

Everybody please PRAY! URGENT!

10:00 am - email via James' sister -
"Just got off the phone with James and I have a VERY URGENT update/prayer request.  Trey's lungs are not responding to the new vent.  He is not putting off the carbon dioxide and his lungs are not working right.  The doctors feel that the open valve in his heart is contributing to this situation with his lungs.  He is going to have an ultrasound of his heart today (Tuesday) at noon.  He is in a lot of stress.  His BP is low, as is his heartrate.  He has been placed back under Critical Watch.  He will also be getting a blood transfusion today.   The next 24 hours are critical to Trey's survival - it is a minute by minute watch for him.

Everyone please stop & pray for Trey & for James, Naomi & family.  Trey needs us to lift him up to the One who can perform miracles and heal him.  Pray that James & Naomi will continue to find rest & strength in the Lord.

I will try to update immediately as I receive word.

Evening Update

7:30 pm - update via email from James' sister - Drs. are concerned about Trey's lungs.  There is not a problem with him taking in the oxygen, he is getting plenty of that and doing fine.  But he is not putting off enough carbon dioxide.  His carbon dioxide levels are a little high, so they are going to switch him to a different vent in hopes of getting those levels back down.  This is not an emergency, just something they are concerned about.

continue in prayer for:
  • Trey's carbon dioxide levels to decrease.
  • Trey's growth & development
  • wisdom for the medical staff
  • strength & rest for the family
O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  Psalm 107:1

NO CMV!

Praise the LORD!

3:00 pm - Received an email from James' sister, Trey does NOT have CMV!  What an answer to prayer!  I will update with more info as I receive it, but had to let you know about the CMV!  God is good!!!
